Haylands Primary School was buzzing with colour, conversation and culture as pupils marked International Languages Day with a day packed full of European-themed fun.

Each class explored greetings in a different European language, sparking curiosity about the many ways people communicate across the continent.

Pupils took part in activities celebrating traditions and customs from around Europe — all designed to promote understanding, respect and inclusion.

Families also got involved by sharing greetings in the languages spoken at home, creating a real sense of community and connection across the school.

One of the day’s highlights was a lively French market, where children used play ‘euros’ to buy treats from la boulangerie, la patisserie and even la poste!

The celebrations ended with a whole-school assembly, where pupils proudly shared what they’d learned — rounding off a day filled with joy, pride and togetherness.

Mr Jonathan Roberts, Head of Modern Foreign Languages, said:

“International Languages Day is a wonderful opportunity for our children to explore the world beyond the classroom.
"It’s about celebrating who we are, where we come from, and the many ways we can connect through language and culture.”

Haylands Primary continues to champion inclusive education and global citizenship — making learning meaningful, memorable and, most of all, fun.
