Havenstreet Main Road has reopened to traffic following the completion of emergency works earlier today (Thursday).

The road, which connects Havenstreet and Binstead, was closed in both directions on Thursday morning while Island Roads carried out urgent drainage repairs between Firestone Copse Road and Stroudwood Road/Newnham Road.

The closure caused disruption for motorists, particularly those already affected by ongoing resurfacing works on Binstead Road, where traffic has been diverting via Havenstreet and surrounding routes to bypass Ryde.

During the closure, drivers were forced to use alternative routes including the Downs, where temporary traffic lights remain in place at Downend, or travel through the Binstead Estate.

Other diversions involved using Stroudwood Road and Newnham Road to rejoin the main Newport to Ryde route at Binstead Hill.

Island Roads confirmed the emergency works were completed quickly, allowing the road to reopen to all traffic shortly after midday.

Meanwhile, Binstead Road remains closed between Ringwood Road and Queens Road until 30 January.

It is due to reopen temporarily during Southern Water works at Eleanor’s Grove in Quarr, before closing again in April.

Motorists are advised to continue allowing extra time for journeys in the area while other roadworks remain in place.
