Voters in Freshwater South will have four candidates to choose from at the upcoming Isle of Wight Council elections on May 7.

Current ward councillor Becca Cameron (Independent) is seeking re-election and is being challenged by Greta Farian (Labour), Ian Pickering (Reform UK) and Peta Adrienne Stevenson (Green Party).

The Local Democracy Reporting Service invited all candidates to submit a 100-word statement ahead of polling day.

Independent candidate Becca Cameron says she has lived in Freshwater for more than 30 years and has spent much of that time advocating for the local community.

She says her priorities include improving safety along Military Road, tackling sewage pollution and flooding, protecting green spaces and supporting local services.

She also says she will oppose inappropriate development while backing affordable housing and local businesses.

Labour candidate Greta Farian has a background in employment support, currently working as a caseworker for union members in the charity and voluntary sector.

She has a particular interest in the care sector and highlights the importance of a strong and motivated workforce.

She is also a member of the Island’s Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education.

Reform UK candidate Ian Pickering did not provide a statement.

Green Party candidate Peta Adrienne Stevenson says she previously worked in banking, as well as roles including taxi driving and retail.

Now retired, she volunteers at Newport Minster and the Apollo Theatre in Newport.

She says she is keen to contribute further to the Island community.

The election will take place on May 7.
