A former HSS hire centre building on the edge of Newport is set to be brought back into use after plans were approved to store and sell plastic products.

Ornamental Plastics Co. has been granted permission to change the use of the vacant commercial unit at 12 Parkhurst Road, on the outskirts of the Isle of Wight’s county town.

The approved plans also include a series of external improvement works aimed at upgrading the appearance of the site.

According to a statement submitted by the applicant’s agent, Dean Parkman Architecture, the proposals will help regenerate the area and support local economic activity.

Planned works include new shop signage, façade upgrades, reinstating a road sign, replacing external railings and installing new doors.

The business will store and sell items including flooring, wall panels, skirting, balustrades and decking, and will operate Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 4pm.

In its decision report, the Isle of Wight Council said the new use would have no greater impact on neighbouring properties than previous uses and raised no objections on noise or highway safety grounds.
