Plans have been submitted to turn the former offices of a well-known marine equipment company in Cowes into a five-bedroom house.

BCM Wilson Hill is seeking a change of use for 41 Birmingham Road, which has been empty since Spinlock, the previous occupant, relocated to the converted police station next door.

The application includes external changes, such as a sky lounge, balcony replacement, and a relocated main entrance, aimed at improving the property’s appearance while maintaining its Art-Deco style.

The submitted Planning Statement says:

“The proposal enhances the visual appearance of the building, removing unsympathetic materials while keeping in context with Cowes’ marine heritage.
"The setting is a mix of domestic and commercial boating activity, creating a lively and distinctive environment.”

The public consultation on the application (25/01439/FUL) closes on 7 November, with a decision expected by 1 December.

Residents can view the plans and submit comments via Isle of Wight Council’s planning portal.
