A two-week shutdown of the Cowes floating bridge is now underway to allow for a series of planned checks and repairs.

The vessel was taken out of service this morning (Tuesday), with crossings between East and West Cowes expected to resume early on Wednesday, May 20.

During the closure, engineers will examine key mechanical systems and carry out safety inspections required each year, as well as completing additional maintenance work.

A launch service has been introduced to keep pedestrians and cyclists moving between the two sides of the River Medina. It will run most days from early morning until late evening, with slightly later start times on two Sundays during the works.
