First-Ever Fire Engine Pull To Raise Funds For Wight Brainy Bunch This Saturday

A brand-new charity event is set to make its debut on the Isle of Wight this weekend as teams take on the challenge of pulling an 18-tonne fire engine along Newport Quay.

The Wight Brainy Bunch Fire Engine Pull takes place this Saturday (25th July) from 10am until 5pm, raising money for the Island charity that supports families affected by brain tumours.

Teams from across the Isle of Wight, including fitness groups, community organisations, local businesses and groups of friends, will compete to pull a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service fire engine over a distance of 50 metres in the fastest time possible.

Spectators are also being encouraged to come along, with a full day of family entertainment planned.

The Isle of Wight Highland Pipes & Drums will lead out the first team at 11am, while visitors can also enjoy children's inflatables, local stalls, food vendors, a licensed bar and live music from the Corinne Atkins Band, X-Directory, The Geckos and more.

A spokesperson for the Wight Brainy Bunch said:

"We are incredibly grateful to every team that has signed up and to everyone who has helped make the event possible.

"We would love to see the Island come along, cheer on the teams, enjoy the entertainment and help us make our first Fire Engine Pull a huge success."

The event has been made possible with the support of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, along with a number of local sponsors.

The Wight Brainy Bunch provides practical, emotional and financial support to Isle of Wight families affected by brain tumours, with all money raised from Saturday's event staying on the Island to help those living with the diagnosis.
