An electric vehicle charging station could be built on a vacant brownfield site beside a pub in Lake.
EON Drive Infrastructure UK has applied for permission to install eight charging bays – including two accessible spaces – along with a substation, lighting columns and a new access with dropped kerbs.
The proposed site is located behind the Merrie Gardens Farm pub.
The plans have been submitted by the applicant’s agent, nineteen47, who say the development would be the first dedicated EV charging hub in the local area and would help support the shift towards greener transport.
In a covering letter to County Hall, the agent says the scheme would help meet the growing demand for sustainable transport infrastructure.
Electric vehicles are described as a key part of the Government’s ambition to achieve zero-emission transport nationwide.
The letter adds that the site is well positioned off a main route and would provide a purpose-built charging facility in an area where travel movements are already established.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 26/00192/FUL runs until March 27, with a decision expected on April 20.
