Dog owners are being reminded of rules requiring pets to be kept on leads in certain public areas across the Isle of Wight.

Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) have been in place since 2020 and require dogs to be on leads on all public roads, pavements and verges within the council's boundaries.

The rules also cover limited-access roads including Appley Walk and Garden Walk along Ryde seafront, while dogs are prohibited from fenced children's play areas.

Council officers regularly patrol affected locations and can issue Fixed Penalty Notices for breaches, with repeated non-compliance potentially resulting in court action.

A man was fined £660 at Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court last month after being found guilty of twice failing to keep his dog on a lead in an area covered by a PSPO. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £264 surcharge.

Seasonal dog exclusion zones also remain in force on selected Island beaches until 30th September.
