Concerns Raised Over Isle Of Wight Health Services

Long waits at St Mary’s Hospital, pressure on A&E and delays with GP referrals are among the main concerns raised about health services on the Isle of Wight.

New figures from Healthwatch Isle of Wight show 63 per cent of feedback gathered between July 13th and August 12th was negative.

A&E and GP services were the most frequently criticised, with at least 30 negative responses about each.

One patient said they waited two hours after being referred to A&E, then spent a further 24 hours sitting on a chair before reaching a ward and waiting more than an hour for a bed.

Concerns were also raised about accessing prescriptions and support for cancer patients.

However, there was praise for A&E staff, while feedback on care homes, urgent care and dentistry was largely positive.

The NHS says it takes the experiences shared through Healthwatch seriously and will use them to help improve services on the Island.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has been approached for comment.
