Forty-five language students from Carisbrooke College travelled to London for a fully funded Mandarin Study Day at BFI Southbank.

The trip was paid for using a £2,000 prize the school received from School Travel Organiser Magazine after winning a national award for a previous history visit to Vietnam.

Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils took part in immersive sessions focused on Mandarin language and Chinese culture, analysing film clips and contributing to discussions alongside hundreds of students from across the country.

They also watched a screening of The Farewell as part of the event.

Teachers say the experience has boosted enthusiasm for language learning, with several students now considering taking Mandarin at GCSE.
