Outline permission has been granted for 12 homes on the outskirts of Newport, while two other planning appeals on the Isle of Wight have been dismissed.

The government’s Planning Inspectorate overturned a previous refusal for Mrs C. Fern’s proposal on Landscape Lane, which includes vehicle and pedestrian access and a pedestrian crossing on Staplers Road.

The inspector concluded the scheme would not cause harm to highway safety or accessibility.

In contrast, appeals for a wooden boathouse at Horestone Point, Seaview, and flats on Sandown High Street were both rejected.

The boathouse plans were refused due to insufficient biodiversity information and proximity to ancient woodland, while the Sandown High Street flats were declined over concerns about living conditions and potential fume emissions from a neighbouring launderette.
