Bus Stops At Hale Common To Be Upgraded

Bus stops on the A3056 at Hale Common are set to be upgraded as part of a scheme to improve safety and accessibility.

Work on both sides of the road, outside Leslie's Suzuki, is due to begin on 21 September and is expected to take around three weeks.

Island Roads is carrying out the improvements on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council.

The scheme will include new hard standings and a footway at both bus stops, along with a tactile crossing point to help pedestrians cross the road between them.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place while the work is carried out.

The improvements are being funded through the Department for Transport's Safer Roads Fund, secured by the Isle of Wight Council.

They follow the first phase of the project at Arreton, where bus stops are also being upgraded.

Island Roads says using temporary traffic lights at Hale Common, rather than closing the road completely, should help keep disruption to traffic to a minimum.
