Becca Cameron Storms To Victory In Freshwater South

An independent candidate has stormed to victory in the Freshwater South Isle of Wight Council by-election.

A total of 472 voters backed Becca Cameron who will replace fellow independent councillor John Medland as the area’s County Hall representative.

Reform UK’s candidate Bill Nigh came second with 269 votes.

Becca said:

“Thank you so much to everyone that came out to vote for me and thank you to my fabulous team that has supported me.

“The people of Freshwater have spoken – they have stood up to fight to protect our beautiful area before it is destroyed forever.

“People visit the West Wight for its beauty, its open spaces, for its inspiration, its nature, peace and tranquility and not to see mass housing developments the government is forcing upon us.

“Building on our green fields ignores our unique protected landscape and will damage our vital tourist industry forever.

“The people of Freshwater say no. I will fight tooth and nail for my amazing community and protect all that we love and cherish.”

Emma Cox (independent): 105 votes

Bill Nigh (Reform UK): 269 votes

Warren Whyte (Conservative): 147 votes
