The Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club will host the annual Pier2Pier tomorrow (Saturday).

Now in its 71st year, the event is a 1.8 mile open water event, with 200 competitors taking part this year.

There will be up to 30 kayakers and safety boats accompanying the swimmers.

The swim starts at 2pm from the beach by Sandown Pier and follows the coast to Shanklin Bay, with the race ending on the beach outside Shanklin Rowing Club.

This is  a friendly and enjoyable event whilst providing a challenging swim for competitors aged 15 and over.

Trophies will be awarded for various swim-stroke, age and team categories, with a commemorative keepsake presented to each winning swimmer.

Once at Shanklin, they and the swimmers will enjoy the fabulous sounds of the Samba Band who'll be there playing as the swimmers come in.

In the event of bad weather, the swim will be postponed with a backup date of Saturday August 23.
