The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was deployed to Cowes yesterday (Thursday) evening following a serious sporting accident during a cricket match.
Emergency services were called to the Isle of Wight Community Club at around 7pm after two players collided while taking part in a Cowes Cricket Club v Vestas Twenty20 fixture.
The collision reportedly resulted in serious head injuries, with flying medics landing on the playing field to assist ambulance crews at the scene.
Shortly after 8pm, the air ambulance relocated to the helipad at St Mary’s Hospital as the injured players were taken to hospital by road ambulance.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was later stood down and returned to its Southampton Airport base.
Neither of the injured individuals required transfer to the mainland for further treatment.
