Adgestone Campsite Could Open All Year Under New Planning Proposal

An Isle of Wight campsite could be allowed to operate all year round under a new planning proposal.

John Perez of Nationwide Lodges has applied to remove two conditions attached to planning permission granted in 2002 for Adgestone Campsite, northwest of Sandown.

The application, reference 26/01310/RVC, also seeks to allow access to the site via additional roads and rearrange the existing pitches.

If approved, the changes would allow camping activities to take place throughout the year.

According to Mr Perez's application, Adgestone Campsite has been brought back into full operation by new owners after being closed for four years under its previous proprietor.

The application says significant investment has been made in upgrading and recommissioning the site.

It says customers from the Isle of Wight and elsewhere have repeatedly asked about being able to store caravans and campers at the site throughout the year, as longer periods of suitable camping weather have increased demand.

Mr Perez says allowing holiday camping throughout the year could also enable around seven full-time members of staff to remain employed, alongside a range of maintenance contractors.

The application also claims the additional visitors could generate increased revenue for the Island.

The proposal includes changes to access arrangements.

The application says the existing route along Lower Road in Adgestone is very narrow, and argues that allowing occasional access through the site's lower gateway would help reduce problems caused by wider vehicles using the single-track road.

The Isle of Wight Council's public consultation on the proposal is due to close on October 23.

A decision is currently expected by December 22.
