A 14-house development will be built next to a main Isle of Wight road.
Oceanview Developments has been granted planning consent for reserved matters relating to its previously approved outline proposal for two-storey two, three and four-bed homes on land next to 77 Place Road, in Cowes.
Application 25/00785/RES is for soft and hard landscaping.
Oceanview’s agent, the Andrew White Planning Consultancy, previously said the proposal would help the new housing ‘complement the character and appearance of the surrounding area’.
The council approved outline consent for the development in January 2023, describing it as a ‘small but important contribution to meeting local needs for market housing’.
It was met with considerable opposition however, from two parish councils, 16 local residents, the Island’s then MP, Bob Seely, and the Campaign to Protect Rural England Isle of Wight (CPRE IW).
Concerns raised by Northwood Parish Council included increased traffic and ‘adverse effects’ on the ‘local community and social infrastructure’.
Gurnard Parish Council meanwhile cited the area being a greenfield site, its location outside of a settlement boundary and a lack of affordable housing.
