The Isle of Wight Council has voted to move forward with plans to replace Floating Bridge 6, despite officers recommending that the existing chain ferry be modified instead.

A decisive vote on the future of the Isle of Wight’s Floating Bridge is expected at County Hall today.

The vessel has already cost an extra £9 million on top of its original £3.2 million purchase and £1.4 million slipway works, with no end in sight.

The Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of action later this month while it undergoes its regular autumn refit.
