Annual PEACH Art Exhibition Opens This Weekend

The creativity of Island pupils is being showcased and celebrated in a new art exhibition opening at Newport's Quay Arts today (Saturday).

Children and young people from across the Island submitted work for the annual 'PEACH' art exhibition, which runs until Saturday 27 April in the Clayden Gallery.

This year's theme was 'connect'. Connection with others is so important for health and wellbeing as one of the 5 Ways to wellbeing Mental health and wellbeing.

Schools were invited to submit their own interpretations of this theme, with some pieces depicting human connection, while others chose the ever-present technological connection around us. All pieces are unique and tell a different ‘connect’ story.

The fantastic display features a variety of mixed art mediums and has been co-produced by the Isle of Wight Council's Public Health team via its Partnership for Education, Attainment and Children's Health (PEACH) initiative and the Quay Arts Creative Team.

The scheme aims to better support schools in improving the health and wellbeing of their pupils, staff and families.Simon Bryant the Island Director of Public Health, said:

"Building on the great response we had from schools last year, this year's PEACH art exhibition allows us to share PEACH and the important theme of connection with the wider community.

"This showcases and celebrates both the great work that our schools do to improve health and the creativity of our Island pupils.

"This has been an inspirational project from start to finish. Projects like this are vital for ensuring that everyone gets the chance to understand key areas of health and explore their creativity. Huge congratulations to all the students for their amazing work!”

The exhibition is open daily from 30 March until 27 April, 9am until 5pm and is free to attend.
