WightSAR Volunteers Are Hoping To Replace Their 'Unreliable' Incident Control Vehicle

WightSAR volunteers are hoping to replace an incident control vehicle they say is 'unreliable' and 'reaching the end of its life'.

The charity says it is a 'huge undertaking' to replace the vehicle - that will cost around £35,000.

Volunteers with the Island's search and rescue team say they hope to secure grants to help fund it but support "is still needed".

The vehicle carries all the team's required equipment and includes a 12.5 metre radio mast -  allowing them to secure digital communication with search teams.

It carries casualty evacuation stretchers, first aid kits, bank search kits and much more.

Posting on the fundraising page, a spokesperson said:

'WightSAR is a registered Lowland Rescue Charity made up of 100% volunteers and receives no statutory funding from any source, totally relying on fundraising for its operational and project costs.

'WightSAR is deployed by Hampshire Constabulary to search for high risk missing people , including children , those living with mental health & learning disabilities , those living with Dementia and those wishing to harm themselves.

'Every call out is an emergency and time is vital to ensure lives are saved.

'Please support WightSAR  in this exciting and vital project and help us build an Incident Control Vehicle fit for our future needs so we can carry on with our life saving searches across the Isle of Wight.'
