Totland Man Arrested Following Hit And Run Incident

A man from Totland was arrested for failing to stop following a two-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Whitwell.

Police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Ventnor Road at around 6.20pm on Saturday (April 16).

A black MG had collided with a green Nissan at a set of temporary traffic lights, before the black MG allegedly failed to stop at the scene.

Officers later located the vehicle outside of an address on Saint Saviour’s Road in Totland Bay.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed:

"A 33-year-old man from Totland has been arrested on suspicion of common assault, failing to stop after a road accident and using threatening /abusive/insulting words and behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence.

"No further action was taken in relation to the common assault or public order offence."

The man was reported for summons for failing to stop at the scene of an accident, but has not been charged.
