Shanklin Motorhome Fire Leads To Early Morning Call-Out

An early hours fire at a Shanklin motorhome resulted in an emergency services call-out today (Tuesday).

Fire crews from Shanklin and Ventnor attended the scene at Lower Hyde Holiday Park after receiving the call at 4.11am.

One motorhome was found to be well alight, with two breathing apparatus and two hose reels used.

The ambulance service attended the scene, although no detail of any potential casualties has been released.

We have contacted the emergency services for an update.

UPDATE 9.43am

The Fire Service said:

"Newport, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor firefighters were called to a caravan blaze in Shanklin at around 4am this morning.

"The vehicle was destroyed in the fire which was extinguished by firefighters in breathing apparatus using hose reels and jets.

"The fire is believed to have been set deliberately and the scene was handed over to police officers.

"HIWFRS returned to station shortly before 5am."
