Orchard House staff celebrating their 'good' rating by the CQC

A Newport care home has received a 'good' overall rating following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The inspection activity started at Orchard House on June 28 and ended July 6.

During this time they visited the home twice and praised the service for being responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led.

The report stated that they observed a high quality, person-centred culture and staff spoke with people in a kind and caring way.

Residents were actively involved in making decisions about their care and asked for their views about all aspects of the service.

Relatives and residents alike told the CQC they felt safe and were happy with their care.

The CQC also observed positive interactions between staff and people.

As part of the report, a resident said:

"I feel safe, it's very nice here and I am well looked after".

Staff were also interviewed as part of the report, one member said:

"I love working here, looking after the residents, helping them and giving them what they need".

Kim Fleming, General Manager at Orchard House, said:

"I am so proud of all we've achieved at Orchard House.

"This is a whole team result, as we work together for the benefit of our residents, no matter what our role, and are committed to a whole home approach."

Barchester Healthcare said:

"We are delighted that Orchard House has been rated 'Good' overall following the CQC's most recent inspection.

"The team always strive to provide the best possible quality care for everyone who lives at the home".

As a celebration of the good report, each member of the team was rewarded with a £100 gift voucher.

This is the first review rating from the CQC of the care home since 2019 where the service had been rated 'good' overall.
