"Testing for COVID-19 remains a key tool in our fight against the virus", says Johanna Jefferies, Associate Director of Public Health for the Isle of Wight.
From today (Monday 16 August), changes to self-isolation come into force.
If you are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and you are:
over the age of 18 and fully vaccinated you will no longer need to self-isolate but should get a PCR test as soon as possible.
under the age of 18 you will also no longer be required to self-isolate, but will be given advice about whether to get tested.
If you are not fully vaccinated you will be required to get a PCR test and isolate for 10 days.
Johanna Jeffries added:
“Everyone over the age of 18, regardless of vaccination status, should get a PCR test if notified as being a “close contact” of someone with COVID-19. This is essential to help us contain the virus and stop the spread to others. You can still get the virus even if you are vaccinated and could pass it on to other people.”
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 you should book a PCR test immediately. You will still be required to self-isolate if you test positive.
The testing facility at Newclose Cricket Club is open seven days per week and PCR tests can be booked online or by calling 119.
If you are contacted by NHS Test and Trace to advise that you are a “close contact” of someone who has tested positive, you will still need to self-isolate if you:
- have not received your COVID-19 vaccination or have only received one dose;
- have received your second dose within the last 14 days;
- have tested positive following a PCR test;
- have been fully vaccinated and are displaying COVID-19 symptoms (ahead of getting a PCR test).
Johanna added:
“I’d also encourage people to take regular rapid response LFT tests as one in three people don’t have any COVID-19 symptoms. These tests help to find positive cases quickly and break the chains of transmission in our community. These tests are available from pharmacies across the Island or can be ordered online.”
