Isle Of Wight Residents Urged To Get Rambling For National Walking Month

70 Mile May

Islanders are being encouraged to get rambling in May for national walking month.

In a bid to get us out and about and exercising, whilst also raising money for charity, a fundraising walk is happening for Islanders.

The 70 Mile May challenge asks you to walk the equivalent distance (outside) of the Island’s coastal paths, which is 70 miles.

Charity Independent Arts has suggested some ways you can approach the challenge:

  • you could aim to walk 2.25 miles every day of the month
  • do some longer more challenging walks make up the milage
  • or you could walk all 70 miles of the coastal path in one go!

The charity has set a fundraising target of £70 equal to £1 a mile, but it says that is a target not an obligation!

After you have set up your own fundraising page on JustGiving you're asked to raise what you can and spread the word by getting other people involved.

If you want to fundraise as a team or household, you can set a group target, and complete the challenge collectively!

The challenge will officially begin from Saturday 1 May and end on Monday 31 May.
