Isle Of Wight Figures As UK Records NO Coronavirus-Related Deaths

As the UK records no new daily coronavirus-related deaths for the first time since the pandemic began, just two cases have been recorded on the Isle of Wight

The Island's rolling rate, per 100,000, remains below the national average at 17.6.

It has risen slightly, though. In the seven days to May 27, it has increased from 13.4.

Since March 2020, there have been 6,861 cases on the Isle of Wight.

Meanwhile, nationally, 3,165 new cases were recorded in the latest 24-hour period, according to government data.

There have been no deaths linked to the virus for the first time since the pandemic started.

Calls are growing from some experts for the government to delay the lifting of the remaining lockdown restrictions in England later this month.

Professor Ravi Gupta, a member of the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (Nervtag), said that a further easing of measures on June 21 was "a bit early".

Lockdown easing has already been 'paused' for millions of people in central Scotland.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon's announced a 'slight slowing down' in the lifting of restrictions because of rising numbers of COVID cases.
