An Isle of Wight primary school has improved its Ofsted rating — now ranking ‘Good’ in all areas.
The education watchdog visited Brighstone Church of England Primary School in February and noted the positive changes that have been made since its last visit.
When the school was last inspected in 2021 it received a ‘Requires Improvement’ judgement which has now been upgraded to ‘Good’.
In their recently published report, inspectors said pupils are proud of their school, which sits at the heart of the local community.
The school has high expectations for pupils’ academic outcomes and inspectors said, in most subjects, pupils live up to them and achieve well, making them well-prepared for secondary school.
Inspectors said pupils are happy and safe at the school due to the actions of the pupil and adult safeguarding leads. Overall safeguarding arrangements are effective.
The pupils behave well and those with special educational needs are appropriately supported with their learning and also achieve well.
One area inspectors said the school could improve was to ensure the recent changes to the curriculum provide pupils with a consistently deep body of knowledge on which to build.
The school had taken ‘decisive action’ to improve the curriculum, inspectors said, with a clear outline in every subject and order of what pupils need to learn.
In the subjects where the curriculum changes are more recent, pupils’ recall and use of key knowledges is not as secure as it is in those subjects that are further along.
Staff told inspectors they appreciate the school’s outward-looking culture and the opportunities for professional development with other schools and the council.
Parents and carers appreciate being part of the school family, inspectors said, with one parent telling inspectors: “We feel so lucky our children will always have such good memories of their primary school days.”

“We welcome the positive comments in the report which reflects all the hard work that goes on in our close-knit school — a school pupils are rightly proud of.
