Girl Rescued From Mud In The River Medina

A 12-year-old girl has been rescued from mud in the River Medina.

Cowes RNLI lifeboat was among those tasked to assist last night (Monday), launching at 5.15pm. Also racing to the scene, between Island Harbour and the Folly, were Bembridge and Ventnor coastguards and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

They girl had been waist deep in the off-shore mud for over an hour, and was getting increasingly cold.

She was eventually rescued by firemen using specialist inflatable equipment. An ambulance then took her to St Mary’s Hospital for a check-up.

Although the lifeboat was not directly involved in the actual rescue, the crew provided useful radio communication between on-shore coastguards and Solent Coastguard headquarters at Fareham. It returned to station at 6.15pm.
