Chale Show 'Roaring Success' Despite Disruptive Weather

This year's Chale Show has been branded a 'roaring success', as thousands headed to the annual event despite the disruption caused by the weather.

It's estimated several thousand visitors attended the show yesterday (Sunday) despite forecasted rain making an appearance in the late afternoon.

For the first time in several years, the organisers of the event were forced to cancel its first day as torrential downpours and gale-force winds struck the Isle of Wight as part of Storm Antoni.

Despite the disruption, guests were able to enjoy performances from Stannage Stunt Team, Bob Hogg and his sheepdogs, and the gravity-defying Madness Events Trampolining Team.

Also on offer were exhibits of military vehicles, historic agricultural machinery, and plenty of prize-winning fruit and vegetables. Competition entries in more than 100 classes were also judged, with prizes handed out for the best Coronation Crowns and Lego buildings... along with wines and cakes.

Stalls from local businesses and organisations were also drawing in the crowds, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with their lifesize 'Operation' game and Mountbatten with a pop-up charity shop and much-needed umbrellas.

Those behind the show said:

"Team 2023 wants to Thank everyone involved in this year's show.

"We overcame the weather and had a fantastic day, making sure we can continue to support local charities!

"Now to start planning for 2024!"

An announcement of the funds raised by the event is expected in the coming weeks.
