Ambulance On 999 Call Crashes In Sandown

An ambulance involved in a crash in Sandown this morning (Thursday) was responding to a 999 call, it's been confirmed.

No one was hurt in the incident, the Isle of Wight NHS Trust has said.

As Isle of Wight Radio first reported, the appliance and a Vauxhall Corsa collided on Perowne Way just before 10.30am.

It happened near the traffic lights at the junction with Morton Common.

The NHS Trust has confirmed no patients were onboard the ambulance at the time:

"We can confirm that one of our Emergency Ambulance vehicles was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle in Sandown this morning whilst responding to a 999 call.

"There was no patient onboard at the time. Everyone involved including the crew and the people in the car involved are OK and no injuries were sustained.

"The next available Ambulance was dispatched to attend the emergency call."

Delays are continuing along Perowne Way.
