Butter Beer Money: New Anniversary Harry Potter Coins To Also Feature Double Royal Tribute

A new coin collection, released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, is to also feature a double royal tribute.

Not only will the set have the face of the boy wizard on one side, but on the other, they will honour both the late Queen Elizabeth II and new King Charles III.

The novel Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling was first published in the UK in 1997 by Bloomsbury Publishing.

The Royal Mint said its new collection, celebrating the success of the books, will be one of "a small number" that will see a change of reverse portrait.

The first coins in the collection will feature the image of Elizabeth, and the final two, launching next year, will feature King Charles.

Prices range from £11 for a brilliant uncirculated 50p to £5,215 for a £200 denomination gold Harry Potter coin. A colour version of the Harry Potter 50p will also be available for £20.

Other coins in the collection will feature the Hogwarts Express, Professor Albus Dumbledore and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Nicola Howell, chief commercial officer at the Royal Mint, said the set promised to be "spellbinding" while Ffion Gwillim, the Royal Mint designer who modelled the artwork onto coins, described the illustrations as "so iconic and recognisable".
