Woman Charged Following Death Of One-Year-Old On Isle of Wight

A 27-year-old woman from Newport has been charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old girl on the Isle of Wight.

Jayla-Jean McLaren tragically died on Sunday 3 August after being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Samara Jay Glover, of Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, has been charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

She remains in police custody.

A 31-year-old man from Newport, who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder and related offences, has been bailed with conditions until Monday 27 April.

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Hunter said:

“We understand that cases such as this are incredibly concerning and upsetting.

"However, we kindly ask that you do not speculate on this case, as it could potentially impact any future court proceedings.

"We will provide further updates on this investigation when appropriate.”
