Police Appeal After Suspicious Incident At Newport Retail Park

Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious incident involving girls at a shop in Newport.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary says a man was seen acting suspiciously and taking inappropriate photographs of girls at Home Bargains in Carisbrooke Retail Park, Taylor Road, at around 3pm on Tuesday, September 29.

The man was described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall and believed to be in his early 50s.

He was wearing a dark baseball cap, dark glasses, grey trainers, black trousers and a black jumper.

Police believe a woman may have witnessed what happened and warned a group of girls about the man.

A 69-year-old man from Totland has been arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.

He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Police are particularly keen to hear from the woman who may have intervened, or anyone else who saw anything suspicious.
