Three people were injured following a serious collision on the Military Road near Brighstone yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to the junction with Grange Road shortly before 4.35pm after a Subaru Outback and an Audi S3 collided.

Two people were travelling in the Subaru and had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

A third person was travelling in the Audi.

All three casualties were taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for further treatment.

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended the scene, with its specialist doctors and paramedics providing enhanced pre-hospital care.

Two Isle of Wight ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander were also involved in the response, alongside fire crews from Newport and Freshwater.

Military Road, the A3055, was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the crash. New Road in Brighstone was also closed at the junction with Galley Lane.

The road remained shut into the evening, with traffic diverted away from the area.
