Ferry operator Red Funnel has pledged to give one of its iconic funnels a red-and-white striped makeover if Southampton FC reach the FA Cup Final this weekend.
Saints travel to Wembley on Saturday to face Manchester City in the semi-final, backed by more than 33,000 supporters, with excitement building across the city ahead of the match.
Red Funnel says it is backing the team and will mark the achievement with a visible celebration if Saints progress.
The company has a long-standing relationship with the Saints Foundation through its community work, and says the pledge reflects that connection as well as the significance of the occasion.
Chief Executive Fran Collins said:
“This weekend is a big one for Southampton, and if the team gets through to the final we want to mark it in a way that feels fun, visible and right for the moment.
“Saints reaching an FA Cup Final would be a huge achievement, especially 50 years on from that famous win against Manchester United in 1976.
“It’s a simple show of support if they get there, and we know plenty of people on both sides of the Solent will be hoping they do.”
If Southampton secure their place in the final, one of Red Funnel’s funnels will be transformed into a bold red-and-white tribute to the club.
The pledge comes as the club marks 50 years since the club's historic FA Cup victory, with Saints set to wear commemorative yellow shirts at Wembley.
