Police are appealing for information after a single-vehicle crash in Ventnor over the weekend left a road sign destroyed and street furniture damaged.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was made aware of the collision at the S-bend where Leeson Road meets St Boniface Road at around 8.45pm on Saturday (July 11).
A black Vauxhall Astra is reported to have been travelling down the hill before losing control and colliding with a road sign.
The impact uprooted the sign and scattered sections of stone wall from the central reservation across the carriageway.
Police believe there were four people in the vehicle – two men and two women.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"The driver and passengers were then seen exiting the vehicle and getting into a grey Mercedes, which was driven away from the scene."
Officers are carrying out enquiries and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage or other information, to contact police on 101, quoting reference 44260331299.
