A new GP surgery has opened in Newport, with patients now able to book appointments at the refurbished Riverway House premises.

The building, which was formerly a NatWest bank, has been converted to include new consultation and treatment rooms, facilities for services such as blood tests, and improved working spaces for staff.

Medina Healthcare says the new surgery will give it greater flexibility in providing appointments and allow it to increase the number of face-to-face consultations available.

Dr Christine French, a GP at the practice, said the development was an important investment in local healthcare.

She said the modern facilities, car parking and improved working environment would benefit both patients and staff, while giving people more choice over where they receive their care.

The Wootton Bridge surgery will remain open, with appointments continuing as usual.

However, remedial work is expected to be needed at the Wootton premises in the future, potentially requiring a temporary closure.

No date has been agreed for that work, and Medina Healthcare says patients, staff and local stakeholders will be given plenty of notice before any changes are made.

Patients do not need to take any action and will remain registered with Medina Healthcare.

Information about appointments, travel, parking and accessibility at Riverway House is available on the practice's website.
