Emergency services were called to a collision between a motorcycle and a car on one of the main routes in and out of Newport last night (Tuesday).

The incident happened on Fairlee Road, outside Medina College, at around 6.20pm.

Police, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene, where the motorcyclist was left injured in the road following the crash.

The extent of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.

Fairlee Road remained open but was operating under police direction, with a give-and-take system put in place.

This led to delays for motorists, particularly for traffic heading out of Newport.

Southern Vectis confirmed that its Route 5 and 9 services were diverted via Staplers Road while emergency crews dealt with the situation.

Motorists experienced disruption in the area for a time as the emergency response continued.
