Medina Way Bridge Work Postponed

Planned maintenance work on Medina Way Bridge in Newport has been postponed.

Island Roads had been due to begin the major project this week, but additional strengthening work was identified during the detailed design stage earlier this summer.

The extra work could not be scheduled without extending the project into the Easter period.

Island Roads says, because of the potential disruption to road users, businesses and local residents, it has decided to postpone the entire scheme.

The next likely opportunity to carry out the work will be in autumn 2027, with completion planned before the Easter holidays.

The company says it hopes some advance work can be carried out before September 2027, which could reduce the length of the main construction period.

Island Roads says it will engage with affected stakeholders well in advance of the work starting.
