Man Found With Head Injuries As Police Launch Newport Assault Investigation

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 50s was found injured in Newport following an alleged assault in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Emergency services were called to Melbourne Street, off Trafalgar Road, shortly after midnight amid reports that a man had been attacked and suffered head injuries.
Officers quickly attended the scene, with a section of the residential street cordoned off overnight while investigators carried out enquiries.
The injured man was taken to St Mary's Hospital for treatment.
He has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says enquiries remain ongoing as officers work to establish exactly what happened and identify those responsible.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
Police are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen suspicious activity in the area, or captured footage on a doorbell camera or dashcam to come forward.
