Emergency services were called to a residential address in Shanklin on Wednesday morning (May 20) following concerns for the welfare of an elderly man, who was later found dead at the property.

Police officers and paramedics were dispatched to Green Lane, near Oaklyn Gardens, shortly before 8.30am after an alert was raised over the wellbeing of a man believed to be in his 70s.

On arrival, emergency responders attended the address and established that the man had died.

It is understood the alarm may have been raised by care workers attending the property, prompting a multi-agency response.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the death is being treated as unexpected.

However, officers have said there are currently no circumstances to suggest it is suspicious.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported following the discovery.

A file will now be prepared for the coroner, with standard enquiries set to continue as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.

Incidents of this nature are routinely investigated by police and medical professionals, even where there is no indication of criminality, to ensure all relevant facts are established before formal conclusions are reached.
