A 26-year-old man from the Isle of Wight has been arrested after police stopped a vehicle in Freshwater earlier this morning (Wednesday).
Officers on patrol stopped the vehicle on Afton Road at around 8:20am.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed the driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The man remains in custody at Newport Police Station.
Police said the stop involved Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) officers, the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) and a local neighbourhood officer.
The vehicle involved — a red Vauxhall Astra VXR — was brought to a safe stop before the driver was detained.
Enquiries are ongoing.
