One of the highlights of Ventnor Cricket Club’s 175th anniversary celebrations takes place on Friday (15 August) when the famous Lashings World XI returns to Steephill for the first time in nine years.

Lashings will field a team of international cricketers for the T20 fixture which will start at 3.30pm with a licensed bar and refreshments from 1pm.

Admission to the match is £5 with entry free for under 16s, provided they are accompanied by a paying adult.

Previous encounters with the 'Harlem Globetrotters of world cricket' have provided great entertainment for packed Steephill audiences, and spectators can look forward to more terrific action this time around.

Lashings will select from the following international stars:

Chris Schofield, Martin Bicknell, James Hildreth, Ed Giddins, Owais Shah, John Emburey (all England internationals); Hugo Hammond (England Disability); Nicky Boje (South Africa); Kirk Edwards, Courtney Walsh, Stafanie Taylor (West Indies); Yasir Arafat (Pakistan) and Mohammad Ashraful (Bangladesh).

Sir Gordon Greenidge — the legendary West Indian opening batsman — has fond memories of Steephill, not only with Lashings but also Hampshire, will receive a warm welcome in his ambassadorial role while the one and only Henry Blofeld, the retired BBC Test Match Special commentator, will be on the microphone.
