Plans have been submitted to turn a three-storey office building in central Newport into a four-bedroom house.
Zen Transformations wants to change the use of 29 Pyle Street, a Grade II listed property, which has been empty for some time.
According to the applicant’s agent, V&L Architects, finding a tenant for the office is “non-viable” in the current economic climate.
The building is believed to have originally been a dwelling, dating back to at least 1865.
The proposal would not alter the exterior of the building or affect neighbouring properties, and there would be no new privacy or overlooking issues.
The plans also include modifying internal doors between 29 and 30 Pyle Street.
Public consultation on the application (25/01221/FUL) closes on 7 November, with a decision expected by 2 December.
Residents can view and comment on the plans via Isle of Wight Council’s planning portal.
