'Youths' Spotted On Roofs Of Derelict Sandown Buildings

Concerns have been raised over the safety of a number of derelict buildings in Sandown after 'youths' were spotted ‘trespassing’.

Images surfaced online over the weekend, showing people on top of the derelict The Grand Hotel.

The building, situated next to the Isle of Wight Zoo, has stood empty for a number of years now.

It is not the first time ‘trespassers‘ have been seen at the site.

The latest incident has prompted calls for better security.

One person said: "It needs properly securing with fencing around the base to protect it from people climbing on roofs."

On Sunday (24), there were also reports of people on the roof of the empty Stonehaven care home.

Like The Grand, the Carter Street site also remains derelict.

The person who saw the 'trespassers' said they contacted the police.

Isle of Wight Radio has contacted the relevant parties - and the police - for a comment.
