Yarmouth RNLI Supports Struggling Sailors As 33-Foot Yacht Gets Into Difficulty

Yarmouth’s Severn class all weather lifeboat was launched by HM Coastguard this evening (Monday) at 6.28pm to a 33ft yacht in difficulty north west of the Needles.

Yarmouth RNLI’s volunteer crew located the sailing boat as it struggled in westerly winds of 22 – 27 knots and moderate sea conditions.

The four crew members on board the casualty vessel were concerned that they were unable to maintain secure steerage in the unfamiliar, locally challenging conditions and were being swept towards navigational hazards.

Having assessed the situation, Yarmouth lifeboat crew gave advice to the yacht to support a safe passage and the ALB escorted them to the safety of Yarmouth as the nearest harbour.

Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat returned to her berth and was ready for service at 7.55pm.

The RNLI remains an independent charity that relies on voluntary contributions to fund its lifesaving work.
