World Record! Dorset's Oly Completes Swim Round Isle Of Wight

A Dorset man has smashed the world record for swimming round the Isle of Wight.

It took Oly Rush, 36, just 15 hours and ten minutes to swim 65 miles, according to his online tracker.

He set off from Seaview at 11am yesterday (Monday) and arrived back on dry land at around 2.10am this morning (Tuesday).

The previous world record for circumnavigating the Island was 26 hours.

The first thing Oly did when reaching the finishing line was drink a bottle of beer.

Speaking to his Instagram followers this morning, Oly said:

"Absolutely drained but in an insanely positive way. Just incredible support from everyone and I shall get round to replying to everyone's messages and all the donations. I'm Just blown away by it!"

As a passionate environmental campaigner, Oly completed the swim to raise awareness for plastic pollution

As well as smashing the swim, he's also smashed his fundraising target of £5,000.
