Winds Of 70mph Could Hit The Isle Of Wight

Winds of up to 70mph could hit the Isle of Wight this weekend.

Strong winds are expected to affect most of the country - including the Island - on Saturday (27) and Sunday.

The IW Met Service has issued a weather warning from 2am on Saturday until 4am Sunday.

The IW Met Service said:

"A spell of very strong north to northwesterly winds will develop early Saturday morning with gusts of 50-60mph and possibly up to 70mph over the highest hills, easing a little during the afternoon before strengthening again overnight and into early Sunday morning with gusts once again of 50-60mph, especially over high ground."

Meanwhile, a national Met Office Yellow Weather Warning comes into force at midnight Saturday until 6pm.

The Met Service said:

"Storm Arwen will bring high winds to most areas during Saturday. Gusts will widely reach 55 to 65 mph in many coastal areas with the highest gusts in coastal parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, southwest England and northeast England where gusts in excess of 65 mph are expected in some areas.

"Winds will start to slowly ease over Scotland and then northern England during the course of the day."
