Wight Cycle Hire To Open Riverside Facility

Wight Cycle Hire is to open a new facility at Newport’s Riverside Centre.

The provider is currently based at the former railway station in Yarmouth.

Established in 2005, it provides a family focused cycle hire from the west Wight, while also providing an Islandwide delivery service.

John Allen, Managing Director, said:

“We have, for a long time now, been looking to add additional hire centre locations, but finding suitable facilities in the right areas has always provided a challenge - it’s definitely all about location when it comes to cycle hire.

“The Island’s cycling network continues to grow and improve, mostly along the old railway line network. We wanted a location as close to the centre of the network as possible, and the Riverside Centre location simply ticks all the boxes!

“It couldn’t be closer to the old Newport stations right in the heart of the town and adjacent to the River Medina.

“From the Riverside Hire Centre, you can join existing cycle routes to Cowes, Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde and all Stations in between. Starting your journey at the river and ending by the sea is the perfect journey, similar to those you will experience in Devon on the Tarka Trail and Cornwall on the Camel Trail. It’s also perfect for commuters who would like to use a bike to connect with passenger ferries at Cowes.

“We are very excited by the opportunity the Riverside Hire Centre affords us, it’s also going to be an amazing and beneficial addition to the Island’s cycle hire infrastructure.”

The Riverside Hire Centre will open on April 1, 2022 and will be open 7 days a week until the end of October.
